On October 30, West Chicago Community High School celebrated WeGo Spooky, a day filled with activities, candy, and costumes set up by the high school’s various clubs and activities.

WeGo Spooky is an annual event organized by Student Council that encourages students from WCCHS to give back to the community by setting up and implementing activities, such an indoor miniature golf, face painting, and sugar cookie decorating, for children aged kindergarten to fifth grade. 

“I decided to partake in WeGo Spooky because I wanted to give back to the community, and see the kids all dressed-up in their costumes – and see their smiles when playing and making the crafts we set up,” junior Eilynne Hernandez said.

Many students running stations at the event also dressed-up in costumes to encourage holiday spirit. 

“I’ve never been before. It was a really fun experience, and I really enjoyed all of the interactions I had with both the parents and children,” senior Brooke Schliephake said. Schliephake organized National Honor Society’s Mario-themed station, complete with temporary tattoos and Mario fruit snacks.

Other activities included a robotics demonstration by the Robotics Team, games organized by Creative Writing Club, and crafts assembled with Snowball members. The child development class also oversaw a photo booth.

WeGo Spooky was a positive edition to Halloween once again, creating opportunities for students, staff, and fellow community members to interact.

“We give the kids something to do that’s safe and free,” Student Council adviser Candace Fikis said.
