Any students looking for books, crafts, chats, and fun should come to Book Club’s next meeting.

Book Club will meet on Dec. 16.

Every month, the members of the club pick a book to read and discuss.

“This month we selected ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ by Ransom Riggs. We’ll talk about what we liked or disliked about the book, mostly about the characters,” adviser Donna Leahy said. “We share our love of reading. It’s a safe environment where we can get together and talk about books.”

Club members are given a NOOK, a tablet used for reading digital books.

Aside from discussions and reading, students also create crafts and activities.

“Twice a year we do a craft. We’ve made glass beaded bookmarks in the past,” Leahy said. “One year we actually built a physical Christmas tree made out of books and we decorated it with lights. We try to have some fun too.”

The club allows students to relax from their busy lives.

“It benefits the students. It’s a place where they can share their love for reading,” Leahy said. “A lot of students are bummed down from homework and reading forces them to relax. It’s a great place to talk about books and make friends.”

Book Club will discuss “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” by J.K. Rowling for their next meeting.
