New club welcomes tech savvy students

Coding Club started this year to help promote a useful skill.

In today’s world, coding is becoming a more useful tool. This ability allows people to make computer software, apps, and websites.

“We’re trying to educate kids on how important it is to learn about computer science and being able to code different things so that if they choose the field of engineering, math, or science they can already be ahead of the game as they leave high school,” adviser Charles Vokes said.

New members are welcome to join at any time.

“Coding is one of the things I’ve always wanted to do and I could never really find the time. Coding Club really helped me get into it and find something that helped me learn,” sophomore member David Fletcher said.

The club allows students to advance their technological skills on their own time.

“It’s really just self paced. If you want to join, but you don’t have the time, we have a program they can just go through and let them code on their own. It’s pretty self explanatory, it’s video based and it teaches you how to code and you just practice it,” Vokes said.

Coding Club meets Thursdays after school in room 150.
