Just when you thought the internet couldn’t get any more bizarre, Slime is a new trend that’s sweeping the nation.
There are millions of videos related to Slime on youtube, some being how-to’s and others showing people playing, poking and stretching the mesmerizing goo.
The Slime trend has taken over Instagram as well. Some accounts are entirely dedicated to videos and pictures of it.
The Slime trend doesn’t stop there. Many so-called “Slimers” have turned the hobby into a small business. Kids and adults are selling their Slime on Etsy and other websites.
Many different slime recipes exist, and three will be featured in this article. These methods require glue that contains polyvinyl alcohol (like Elmer’s glue), Borax, and a type of laundry detergent booster.

For all the recipes, an “activator” is needed. This brings the Slime together.

To make, mix one teaspoon of Borax in one cup of warm water and mix until it is completely dissolved.

For easy use, pour the Borax solution into a plastic water bottle and poke a hole in the cap. Make sure to label the bottle, so no one tries to drink it.

Caution: Make sure to properly dilute the Borax and follow all instruction if you intend on recreating a recipe. According to Environmental Working Group, Borax can be irritating when exposure occurs through skin or eye contact, inhalation or ingestion. Misuse of the chemical can result in acute toxicity, with symptoms including vomiting, eye irritation, nausea, skin rash, oral irritation and respiratory effects.

Jiggly Slime

Here is a list of ingredients needed:
4 oz bottle of white Elmer’s glue
⅓ cup warm water
Food coloring for color (optional)
Borax solution
Mixing bowl
Spatula for mixing

Pour glue, water, and food coloring into bowl and mix.

Next, mix in small amounts of the Borax solution, about a tablespoon at a time, until slime pulls away from the sides of the bowl.

Knead the Slime while still in the bowl. If the Slime is still sticky add more Borax solution and knead.

Fluffy Slime

Here is a list of ingredients you’ll need:
4 oz bottle of white Elmer’s glue
Foam shaving cream
Foam soap
Hand lotion
Baby powder
Borax solution
Food coloring (optional)
Two mixing bowls
Spatula for mixing

In the first bowl combine the glue, enough shaving cream to cover up the glue, nine pumps of foam soap, a pump or two of lotion, and food coloring together. Mix.

Next, mix in small amounts of the Borax solution, about a tablespoon at a time, until the Slime pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Knead the Slime while still in the bowl. If it is still sticky add more Borax solution and knead.

In another bowl, pour in enough baby powder to cover the bottom and about a quarter to halfway up the side of the bowl.

Place the Slime in the bowl and knead until all the baby powder is gone.

Glitter Slime

Here is a list of ingredients you’ll need:
4 oz bottle of white Elmer’s glue
½ cup warm water
Glitter
Borax solution
Mixing bowl
Spatula for mixing

To make the glitter slime pour the glue and water into the bowl and mix. Next, mix in small amounts of the Borax solution, about a tablespoon at a time, until the Slime pulls away from the side of the bowl. Knead the Slime while still in the bowl. If it is still sticky add more Borax solution and knead.

Then add glitter to the Slime and knead until the glitter sticks.

Make sure to store all the Slime in an airtight container when not playing with it.
