School spirit will not be hard to miss April 21 as students and staff participate in the second lip-dub.

A lip-dub is a music video that is lip-synced to a song. The music is added while the video is edited, so people are performing to the song they hear.

“Be True To Your City” was the first lip-dub in 2012.

“The first lip-dub we did was a ton of fun. We brought tons of school spirit and positive culture. We had people from other countries who were emailing us and saying ‘Hey this is awesome.’ I think it is an important thing to promote,” broadcasting teacher Dave Jennings said.

First hour broadcasting students will be in charge of planning the lip-dub.

“We have a route plan at the moment, but we are brainstorming who is going to go where along the route and beyond that, we are still trying to plan out elements that will make it cool,” Jennings said.

According to senior Arlene Juarez,  broadcasting class is recruiting lip-synchers for the video and trying to figure out the song that they will use.

“It’s been awhile since we have done a lip-dub so hopefully this one will be better,” senior Lizbeth Garcia said.

Jenning’s goal for the lip-dub is to create an exciting atmosphere.

“I think about concerts that I have been to where there are over 20,000 people, and they are all into the band’s music or a sporting event with people cheering, “ Jennings said. “That is an awesome feeling to have. The chance to create this for the students is an important part of creating a positive school culture.”

Students and staff will also participate in the spring pep assembly that morning.

“The spring pep assembly will coincide with the lip-dub in the morning. It is sort of like a normal pep assembly but different. Students who are not lip-synching will cheer in the gym as the camera goes by,” Jennings said.
