Even though the WeGo-Batavia boys swim team lost a few key players, the team won various meets and beat South Elgin Thursday.

The score for the varsity meet was 85-64.

“The meet went well. Both levels ended up winning. It was a good meet overall with lots of strong performances. It was our first home meet since winter break so the boys were excited to swim,” head coach Nicole Ludtke said.

Many of the swimmers had personal bests in their events.

“I competed in the 500, 100 dash, 200 medley, and 400 free relay. I got a personal best in the 500 yesterday so that was really good for me,” senior captain Jack Gaughan said.

The team consists of 20 swimmers and it is one of the biggest teams Ludtke has seen.

“It is pretty even between West Chicago boys and Batavia boys. We lost a few key people who chose not to come back because of various reasons or for graduation,” Ludtke said.

The boys have managed to work hard in swimming despite a few key players being lost.

“The team gets along really well and are motivating each other. I say that this team is excellent,” Ludtke said.

According to Ludtke, a few of the boys are hoping to qualify for the state meet in a relay on Feb. 24.

The next opponent the team faces is away against Elgin Thursday.
